Welcome to the Disability Resource Center!

The mission of the Disability Resource Center (DRC) is to assist in creating an accessible university community where students with disabilities have an equal opportunity to fully participate in all aspects of the educational environment. We cooperate through partnerships with students, faculty, and staff to cultivate student learning and success.

The DRC has established Student Learning Objectives, the desired knowledge, skills or attitudes that students can acquire through their interactions with our department, and which are tied to student development in college.

Currently enrolled students, or students who have been accepted and plan to attend Cal Poly, may visit How to Apply for DRC Services for information about the application steps. To ensure the timeliness of services, it is important to begin the process as soon as possible. Implementation of services may be delayed for students waiting until arrival on campus to begin the intake process.

Fall 2009 News

Important Change in Alternate Media Process:

Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic logo

Beginning Fall quarter, Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic (RFB&D), provider of audio textbooks, is the primary source for receiving textbooks in audio format. Membership is free. Students should join RFB&D and obtain audio textbooks directly from RFB&D before requesting that the DRC scan, edit and produce an audio alternative. Once you are a RFB&D member you will be able to download audio books directly to your personal computer, or selected MP3 players, and listen to audio books with a live human narrated voice that offers descriptions of images, tables, and graphs. There are several sources for obtaining a compatible MP3 player in order to listen to your textbooks (unless you only want to listen using your computer). Contact your Access Specialist if you need help applying.
