Assistive Technology

Kennedy Library provides a wide variety of assistive technology computer resources for students in library computer labs and classrooms. Assistive hardware and software technologies are embedded into the computer resources in the Kennedy Library information technology labs and classrooms.

Students needing assistive technology should:

  • Complete the DRC application process
  • Meet with the DRC Assistive Technology Specialist who will assess needs and recommend assistive technologies

The following equipment is available for use by eligible students:

  • Dragon NaturallySpeaking (speech recognition software)
  • JAWS (screen-reading software)
  • Zoom Text (screen-magnifying software)
  • Kurzweil 3000 (text reading software)
  • ZoomText Large Print Keyboard
  • Kensington ExpertMouse Pro (trackball)
  • CCTV, aka video magnifier (print enlarger)
  • Motorized adjustable workstations
  • Dual LCD monitors with monitor arms
  • A Self-Serve Station, including a printer, scanner and computer with the following software: Abbyy FineReader (optical character recognition, or OCR, software), Text Aloud (text to audio conversion) and Roxio (burns audio to disc in wav or mp3 formats).

NOTE: Be sure to bring your own CD or flash drive when you come to the lab.
