The chart below outlines the estimated cost to attend Summer Institute, however, it is expected that EOP students will receive full grants and scholarships to attend. EOP and low-income students selected to participate in SI, will have full financial assistance for the program as long as they file the 2015-2016 FAFSA. (See below)

*This student budget is the same as "cost of attendance" and is used for financial aid purposes. Additional program costs are not reflected here and are covered through Cal Poly and Student Academic Services.
Financial Aid is Available!
Financial Aid to attend Summer Institute is available! SI applicants MUST COMPLETE the on-line FAFSA for the year 2015-2016.
Please note that it is the 2015-2016 FAFSA!! This may be confusing on the FAFSA site but know that our Financial Aid Office will use that FAFSA for Summer 2016 awards. It is important that you file the 2015-2016 FAFSA or you will not have Financial Aid for SI.
To complete the 2015-2016 FAFSA, log-in and select "Start 2015-2016 FAFSA" as shown below.
Don't delay, file your FAFSA immediately to ensure all documentation is processed on a timely manner and your award is finalized in time to make the required payments associated with attending Summer Institute.
If you have any questions regarding Financial Aid to attend SI, it is important that you contact the Summer Institute staff at 805-756-2301 or e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Information for using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool
Under the “Financial Information” tab on your FAFSA report, you will come across an optional box to select the “IRS Data Retrieval Tool.” The purpose of this tool is to directly link your tax information with the information needed on your FAFSA. This portion of the FAFSA will ask you a series of questions that determine your eligibility to use the tool. The first question in the "Financial Information" section will ask you if your parents have already completed their IRS income tax return. If they have, make sure you select “Already Completed” in the drop down menu. After selecting your parent's filing status, if you select “no” for each of the following questions, the option to enter your pin number and link to the IRS will display. By clicking on the link, you will be redirected to the IRS page, upon which you should enter your information the exact way that you entered your information on your tax return. You will then click on the “Submit” and "Transfer Now" buttons to finish the process.
It is best to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool immediately upon filing your FAFSA the first time, so that you do not have to go back and update it using the same tool at a later time. Using this tool initially will save you time and ensure that your financial aid is awarded in a timely manner. In addition, it may reduce the chance that you will be “flagged for verification” on your Portal.
