Current Students

Upward Bound helps students in their efforts to succeed in high school and college by offering the following services:

  1. TUTORING:

    In subjects such as math, science and english. This is supervised and administered by Cal Poly college students who serve as Outreach Advisors. Tutoring and advising takes place at the locations below:

    • Arroyo Grande High School
      Rm 402: M,W 3-5
    • Kermit McKenzie Junior High School
      Rm 5: M,T,W,Th 3-5
    • Nipomo High School
      Rm 21: M,W 2:35-4:35
    • Pioneer Valley High School
      Rm 412: T,Th 2:30-4:30
    • Santa Maria High School
      Rm 617: T,Th 2:30-4:30
  2. LUNCH MEETINGS:

    Are informational sessions at the various campuses. Their purpose is to inform current UB students of upcoming events as well as to provide information on careers, scholarships, and educational opportunities. These meetings also serve as recruitment opportunities for prospective UB students. They take place bi-weekly at the following locations:

    • Arroyo Grande High School
      Rm 402: Thurs 12:53 p.m.
    • Ernest Righetti High School
      Career Center: Wed 11:50 a.m.
    • Nipomo High School
      Rm 21: Tues 12:10 p.m.
    • Pioneer Valley High School

  8. SUMMER RESIDENTIAL PROGRAM:

    A 6 week stay on the Cal Poly campus (free room and board plus a summer stipend $) scheduled for June 20- July 29, 2005. Summer students participate in a high energy, fast paced schedule that includes:

    • College prep classes in Math, English, Science and Foreign Language;
    • Recreational and cultural activities, including PE, beach trips, water slides, skating, theatre, museums, and zoos;
    • Leadership activities and team building retreats;
    • Health Seminars;
    • Field trips to colleges and universities
